Gordon Williamson Posted August 27, 2007 Share Posted August 27, 2007 Whilst browsing around an antiques centre today, I came across this little modestly priced beauty amongst a load of overpriced Nazi era junk. So far, I've only come across up to eight rivets on the reverse of a TWM. Anyone any ideas on the maker of this one ? Only mark is the 925 silver content mark. That tughra (looks like somebody stuck 4 fingers and their thumb into wet cement and swirled it around-- a memorable design feature) and the absolutely plain arm edges are unlike any other I've seen. Tim Tezer Posted August 28, 2007 Share Posted August 28, 2007 This example is made by AWS, which I believe is Alfred Werner & Sohne. Their mark, when it appears, is the letters AWS in a wappen (coat of arms) cartouche. They are best known for making the "pillowback" 1914 EK1s. I would think this is a fairly early example because of the complex 9-rivet construction. A marked AWS that I've seen had simpler construction, but the obverse details were identical.
