KIR Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 Hi David, here is a picture from "Eberhard von CLAER, GdI, 1856-1945":http://www.deutsche-kriegsgeschichte.de/claer.htmlI hope that's the person you are looking for, 'cause you wrote "Eduard"!?! Best regardsJens
David M Posted September 12, 2007 Author Posted September 12, 2007 So his actuall rank was GdP and not GdI?
KIR Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 (edited) ... that's all I found ("puis" = "after that"):07 Generalmajor puis 10 Generalleutnant puis 14 General der Infanterie, Eberhard von Claer (1856-1945) (+ 2 GM): Croix de l'Ordre "Pour le M?rite" (29/06/15), General der Pioniere bei der O.H.L. (-25/08/14), puis commandant du 24 corps de r?serve (I) (25/08/14-12/09/14), puis commandant du 7 corps d'arm?e (II) (12/09/14-29/06/15), puis General der Pioniere bei der O.H.L. (29/06/15-11/11/18) (03/07/16 en retraite et colonel honoraire du 5 r?giment de grenadiers de la Garde). [Avant la guerre: 11 brigade d'infanterie (02/07-03/10), 22 division d'infanterie (03/10-06/11), 11 division d'infanterie (06/11-04/13), General der Pioniere bei der O.H.L. (04/13-).]http://web.genealogie.free.fr/Les_militair...e/General/C.htmhttp://www.lexikon-deutschegenerale.de/c_pr.htmlBest regards Jens Edited September 12, 2007 by KIR
bob lembke Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 I am running on memory here, but isn't it true that when a Pionier=Offizier was promoted from Leutnantgeneral to General, he was made "General der Infanterie", not "General der Pioniere"?Bob Lembke
bob lembke Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 Two examples to test this on would be General von Beseler {my grand-father's boss) and General von Mudra, both distinguished Pionier=Offiziere. Bob Lembke
Glenn J Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 Bob,that is correct. There were no Gener?le der Pioniere in Imperial times. The rank of General der Pionier was introduced by an order dated 29 October 1935 (effective 1 November 1935).RegardsGlenn
speedytop Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 Hi,please differentiate between the rank (General der Infanterie) and the function, the official position (General der Pioniere). Is "Kom. General des XXIV.Reservekorps" or "Kom. General des VII.Armeekorps" a rank?http://www.deutsche-kriegsgeschichte.de/claer.htmlRegardsUwe
Glenn J Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 Hi Uwe,in the case of Claer:General der Infanterie = Rank/DienstgradGenerale der Pionere = Appointment/Dienststellung.RegardsGlenn 1
speedytop Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 Hi Glenn, yes. And he was in 1914 General der Pioniere too, but with the rank Generalleutnant.Correct appointment:Chef des Ingenieur- und Pionierkorps und Generalinspekteur der Festungen.RegardsUwe
bob lembke Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 Hi Glenn, yes. And he was in 1914 General der Pioniere too, but with the rank Generalleutnant.Correct appointment:Chef des Ingenieur- und Pionierkorps und Generalinspekteur der Festungen.RegardsUweI think that von Beseler had the same position some years before. Quite a figure. I have a picture of his Generalkommando showing off their new decorations for taking Antwerp on the steps of the City Hall of Ghent, grand-pop and about 17 others the EK II and EK I, I think; von Beseler his pour le Merite. Bob Lembke
speedytop Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 Hi Bob,it is correct for von Beseler (1904), von Mudra (1911) and von Claer (1913):http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/IngenieurkorpsRegardsUwe
