Ed Maroli
Hello, I have the paper work and medals for a member of the 7th S.A. Inf. B Coy. It list him as being "awarded one red , two blue cheverons.". What does this mean ? Thanks, Ed
Guest Rick Research
I believe those are the overseas frontline duty chevrons, worn on the lower right arm as seen on the Canadian on the left here:and this happy (so many = the war was OVER) Merchant Marine officer
Tony
I believe the red chevron denotes 1914 or pre 1914 overseas service. The blue ones were instituted in about 1918 for service from 1915 onwards.Tony
Ed Maroli
Thank you for the replies. It looks like he joined the sevice on 18-8-14 and was discharged on 12-2-18 with malaria ( perm. unfit for trop. service) after serving in both East African campaigns. ( 20-1-1916 to 22-2-1917) and (18-6-1917 to 25-12-1917) ~ Ed
