VtwinVince Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Gentlemen,I recently acquired this decoration from another member, and have little information on it. If anyone can shed some light on award numbers, qualifications for award etc. it would be appreciated.
VtwinVince Posted October 20, 2007 Author Posted October 20, 2007 This decoration takes the form of a metal cypher with the Bavarian crown and a wreath, overlaid on a blue and white ribbon, to be worn as a Schnalle, or bar. The award document dates to 1929. I'm assuming this would have been given out on the discretion of the prince to various lackeys, but that's my speculation.
Ulsterman Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 (edited) Yup-do a quick search-there's a thread on these. I think RR posted an award to a hotel keeper. Purportedly they were often given as "shooting club awards", especially to members of the Prinz Alfons Shooting Club, which I think is still in existence today. Often also given to Bavarian vets with monarchist political convictions. Edited December 28, 2008 by Ulsterman

VtwinVince Posted October 27, 2007 Author Posted October 27, 2007 Student, yours is interesting in that it is from the same maker as mine, but the wreath device on yours is bigger, or the ribbon is narrower.
nesredep Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Hello!Never seen this before,thanks for sharing.Interesting item. RegardsNesredep
Kev in Deva Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Hallo Gents I think its best to measure this item, so as to gather information onpossible variations. The measurements on mine are:Silver Wreath;Height: 42mmWide: 45mmRibbon width: 33mm.Maker Mark: "M.HEINLOTH" interestingly enough the upper part of the letter "E"is not complete, and the lower right leg of the "H" is incomplete!!!Kevin in Deva.
Kev in Deva Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 And then there is the "Gold" version.Kevin in Deva.
VtwinVince Posted October 28, 2007 Author Posted October 28, 2007 Kevin, the measurements of my silver example coincide exactly with yours.

jshorter Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 So, this is a shooting award, or a badge for a royal shooting club then? Thanks! Jason
VtwinVince Posted July 26, 2010 Author Posted July 26, 2010 Jason, I think it was given to persons deemed worthy by Prinz Alfons, with no particular award criterion.
Martin Burr Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 I have seen these both in "silver" and "gold" with 5 different ribbon colours. All that have a maker mark have M.Heinloth, though have also seen others marked just DRGM, which i believe was the German equivalent of patent pending. There still seems to be doubt as to whether they were shooting badges, or the just the Prince's own personal "vanity" award given to whoever he chose for any reason,
speedytop Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 Hi, "... with no particular award criterion" "There still seems to be doubt as to whether they were shooting badges, or the just the Prince's own personal "vanity" award given to whoever he chose for any reason" The correct name is Prinz-Alfons-Erinnerungszeichen (not ...Erinnerungsabzeichen) There are no real doubts. They were given for shooting merits, for expertly hunting, fostering and care and for "patriotic merits". The document was free, but one had to pay the badge. Uwe
