I've got the medal a few days ago and I hope to be right that these medal is a medal given before end of ww2, but I'm not shure. Could anyone of you help me about dating this medal?

Thanks a lot for your help

Hello,

I think you have an authentic Order of the Rising Sun ("Kyokujitsusho") 8th Class. Established in 1875 as Japan?s first national decoration, I do not believe that it continued on after the war.

I am also new to Japanese medal collecting so please wait for confirmation of this from other collectors more experienced than I. It's possible that we will both learn something. Thank you for showing your award.

Regards,

Stu

I second Stu's thinking.

This is a Rising Sun 8th Class. This medal was continued after the war when Japanese orders were re-established (I cannot remember the exact date but it was in the mid 60s).

The piece you have is most likely from between 1940-45 since it is in a Showa era case with silver inscription. Earlier Showa cases had a gold inscription and post war cases have a gold coloured inscription as well. You can look at the pinned topic to see the difference between Meiji and Showa era inscriptions.

Hope this helps.

Thanks again to all of you -- it help a lot because I'm not firm in japanese orders/awards!

Is it also possible to help me with my question about the lock of the case and the possible symbolic character (or not)?

regards
