I'm not sure if it does mean private purchase - but i know, that the "xxl" size turkish iron halfmoon are also marked with a "*" - so probably just a maker mark of an unknown producer?!?!?

Yes, but this isn't the Austrian "base metal" wartime asterisk.

I've got a two ring Hamburg that NO amount of scanning can make the SCAN more legible than an eye sees-- but it has a microscopic leaves on a twig mark. It may LOOK like a bird foot print--or your almost-an-asterisk mark, but under a magnifying glass, it is oakleaves like an SS Gruppenf?hrer collar tab!!

NO clue on makers-- presumably local to the city.

Two ring Hanseatics with suspensions like all other "normal" German awards are much scarcer-- and always much better made--than the "radiator paint" finished 3 ring suspension ones.

My loose Cross with the twig mark (awarded in 1917)

came from a bicycle unit Oberj?ger whose group I got in the early 1970s. I doubt he bought an "extra deliuxe" one (since he never bothered mounting his medals). It must just have been the random issue of diffrent contractors.

An asterik usually stands for silvered brass (or similar) and was used in Austria, so this should be an Austrian made, silvered private purchase piece - or the star was used by another, maybe German maker ...

The Hanseatic Crosses are very attractive. That's a nice one you got Micha.

a 3 ring radiator paint job, with beautiful enamel, but without a ribbon.

This is the very first of these Crosses I have ever had,

hopefully I will get to pick up the other versions eventually

    Hi,

could it be, that all these crosses here in this thread are not awarded crosses?

These are awarded crosses, awarded to a high ranked General. Allways the same cross, only the center medaillon changes.

    See the ring, flat oval!

    Regards

    Uwe
