    Gentlemen,

Thank you all for your contributions to this thread. As I said in my introduction, it is my hope that we will gather enough material to establish a database which could be an aid in identifying the characteristics of the various makers.

I would like to encourage you to continue to submit additional material even if you think that it might be a duplication; you never know, there might be that one little detail that is different. At the same time, duplications tend to confirm what is already seen.

To make searches easier, I have prepared the following index which should make locating examples of each maker easier. Note that the numbers to the far right in bold face refer to the corresponding post #. Thank you again -

That is a GREAT idea-- makes FINDING makers "searchable."

    The Berlin city directory online

    http://adressbuch.zlb.de/

makes tracking down the specific years street address changes took place, possible.

Rick, THANK YOU ! That made my day. Prior to now I was using a printed and very detailed modern Berlin street map (then shifted to Google earth), and an old Imperial map, and had to compare the two to tie the old/new together for addresses.

Another one of Gustav Vietor from Wiesbaden:

So it was you that got it!

A very special bar. Could you post some sort of comparison shot (e.g fullsized 1897)?

It was hard making out the size by the description.
