This is a Japanese Naval officers Sword in the 44 Army scabbard.

The blade is machine made stainless steel. It will not rust in the salt water.

It has a naval arsenal stamp and 3 kanji on the tang but the Mekugi(peg) does not want to come out right now.

It is plain blackened copper/brass with the blackened brass spacers. All parts are numbered 928? if memory serves me. I believe the IJN used arabic numerals. I'll try getting the mekugi out later.

I have one that is rather "massive" compaired to most other WW II blades and it is stainless.

The tsuba and the seppa are blackened brass the others are silver plated brass. All parts numbered 928.

The blade is stainless. There are two arsenal marks. The top of which is the anchor stamp of the naval arsenal.

In Navy mounts it is a Kai Gunto.

My Kai Gunto has copper and brass mounts in the sun ray pattern.

OLD THREAD UPDATE

 

The stamps are of the Toyokawa Naval Arsenal (anchor in circle) and below is the inspector for the Inaba Shrine forge.  Blade is signed "Inaba made".
