    Gentlemen,

it took me a while to get over here. Hello to all old and new!

Here's something I got recently: a bar with Lippe-Detmold and Schaumburg-Lippe. I think #4 might be the rare Lippe Military Merit Medal without swords. Or did they not always attach swords to the ribbon bar?

    Regards

    Chris

    very nice bar!

its a good question about putting swords on ribbonbars - but i would say, that this is a "fighter ribbon bar" so the hindenburg ribbon should have swords for representing the frontfighterscross.

but there are no swords - so i would imagine, that the lippe ribbon should have a swords device as well.

but anyway - its nice

I agree with Christian. The austrian ribbon should also have swords, so it seems that this guy didn't liked sword devices at all.

    Hi Christian,

I don't think so. The non-com Hindenburg - I don't think he forgot his swords - suggests to me an EK2 for war merit at home. The combination with comb Lippe and Schaumburg doesn't worry me - such combinations exist.

Right! That medal was for being wounded at the front in WW1. This guy just didn't like Xs or was too cheap to pay for them.

That is an extremely rare ribbon bar-- this makes FOUR I have ever seen with that ribbon on it. :jumping:

Ah ok, that was for being wounded, being from Lippe, but no EK, right? So we know he got his EK after his MMM!

The construction is also strange: never had a pin, apparently, but not the usual sew-on style either, rather a little 'vaulted'.

    Anyway: still :jumping:

People from Lippe are known for being tight. Errrr, I mean careful with their money.

Yup, it seems to be a sew-on variant. It appears vaulted, but solid, 'massive'. Difficult to explain, I will post pics when I get back.

Rare? Wait till you see my new one....! :speechless1::speechless1:

Hi Chris, I've seen a few like this. "normal" bar in every way, but no pin/hinge. They seem to be made that way with no way they ever had the hardware. The only thing I have not figured out was if they were made for display, or actually intended for wear on a uniform. If meant for the uniform, I have always wondered how the heck they attached them to the tunic!?

What an @ss, to split up a set like that. But it seems to be the status quo on ebay. If I had the fast cash, I would get it to help you try to reunite them. :banger::banger: It does seem to have a reasonable buy it now option.

    Thanks Dan!

IF someone wants to buy the medal bar, I would let my ribbon bar go to get them reunited.

    Hi,

the medal-bar at Ebay I don?t like very much. The ribbons are mounted very strange and the price for this bar is much too high :o

BTW...two weeks ago, I bought some documents, awards and photos which contained the military merit medal Lippe-Detmold.

There is a very small chance, that this guy (who was seriously wounded two times in WW1) got one of the two medals without swords, which were awarded in 1915.

I have to check this, when I`ll visit the archive in Detmold again.

    Greetings

Hi Soloman. I think we haver an original, non-typical bar here. It certainly breaks away from what we normally expect to see, but my "gut call" is that even with up-close, personal examination it will prove to be quite original and probably hand-made by the recipient/his family.

    Okay, then I ?ll agree.

By the way,he didn?t sold this bar...now he reduced the price (but still very expensive)
