Here's something I got recently: a bar with Lippe-Detmold and Schaumburg-Lippe. I think #4 might be the rare Lippe Military Merit Medal without swords. The non-com Hindenburg - I don't think he forgot his swords - suggests to me an EK2 for war merit at home. The combination with comb Lippe and Schaumburg doesn't worry me - such combinations exist.

Ah ok, that was for being wounded, being from Lippe, but no EK, right? So we know he got his EK after his MMM!The construction is also strange: never had a pin, apparently, but not the usual sew-on style either, rather a little 'vaulted'.Anyway: still

They seem to be made that way with no way they ever had the hardware. The only thing I have not figured out was if they were made for display, or actually intended for wear on a uniform. If meant for the uniform, I have always wondered how the heck they attached them to the tunic!?

The ribbons are mounted very strange and the price for this bar is much too high BTW...two weeks ago, I bought some documents,awards and photos which contained the military merit medal Lippe-Detmold.There is a very small chance, that this guy (who was seriously wounded two times in WW1) got one of the two medals without swords, which were awarded in 1915.I have to check this, when I`ll visit the archive in Detmold again.GreetingsSolomon Edited June 9, 2006 by Solomon

It certainly breaks away from what we normally expect to see, but my "gut call" is that even with up-close, personal examination it will prove to be quite original and probably hand-made by the recipient/his family.
