    Luftwaffe Veterinarian!

    Pole-less snakes aside...

what about airbase firefighting personnel? Carmine was/is the universal Feuerwehr color in Germany-- could these insignia (absent the branch slithery) be THAT?

So tabs, caps etc might be either/or-- if any turn up?

    I miss Gene's avatar!

    Rick,

You know... I never thought of that option before. I will have to look for some of these uniforms to compare insignia. I thought that their insignia/tabs were very different. Something to look into.

    Warm regards

    Paul,

That "vet" visor is definately not a period piece nor is it LW Firefighting. The LW Firemen worn a basic fire police uniform with LW insignia. I'll take a scan of my examples and either post them or send them to you. As to LW veterinary branch I can't say positively but Gene's boards are exceptional. We need to remember the LW was the most motorized of the services and had way fewer horses than the Army. George Peterson only saw three examples of the LW Farrier trade badge in all his years of collecting LW. I've only seen one which I have. This leads me to the conclusion LW veterinary troops were very few.

    Regards,

    Garth

    Hi Garth,

Welcome to the forum! Thank you for your insight in the matter! It does not look as if I will be seeing one of these tunics anytime soon. I look forward to seeing your badge!

    Warm regards

    Paul

Thank you mike.  This is the only one I’ve ever heard of.

The gulls were replaced with the correct fixture/prong type to fit in existing holes.

I think it looks awesome next to its medical brethren.

Additional pics in nice lighting.  Notice again contrast against flak tab.  Also, took photos with LW farrier kit and helmet - field look.  Research I’ve seen so far is that there were no more than 400 of these men during the war, all assigned to Luftwaffe Field Division Depots.

How freaking cool is that.... I love it. So interesting to see something that you just don't really think about.

Thank you sir.  I love focusing on the non aviation sides.  The more obscure the better

This really is one of the things I love about this forum (other too) where you get to learn about things that are part of my interest but not something I would have otherwise ever focused on and so I would have probably not know about it. It really is just fun to be able to log on and always learn something I didn't know before.

Hello Gentlemen , The creation of the Luftwaffe Field Divisions produced Great units ill equipated and armed, numerically inferior too in relation to the Heer Divisions, In these Field Divisions existed a heavy Horse drawn Transport Component . with a large presence of young women . In the book Uniforms and weapons of the soldiers of the War 1939 45 second volume ,Liliane and Fred Funcken 1972 . is a plate dedicated to the matter
