ironcross se Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 I have found a dealer who has an Iron cross 1st class 1813.He claims it?s made arround 1850 or somewhat later. It has an open frame in the back, an iron core and a hook applied to the frame.Dimensions in mm :42.3 x 42.5, width at end of arms 22.5. Weight: 12.7 gms.The price is fair. When i look in my litterature I don?t find any pictures of any 1813 cross from the middle of the 19th century. My question to the club is simply. "Is it real or just anotherr piece of metal?"Thomasek1@ironcross.seOBVERSEREVERSE
Eric Stahlhut Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 i was looking at this one the other day. the frames are very poorly joined, imo.
Alex K Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 (edited) Frame looks more like a filed down 1914er.That's what I was thinking. ?why have a complete frame on the revere where no-one will see it? space filler only IMHOregardsAlexedit, attached a genuine one, borrowed from WAF, (If the owner wishes me to delete, let me know.) ironcross se Posted August 27, 2008 Author Posted August 27, 2008 this is one:Thank you for all information. This confirms my suspicions. When I look at the center of the core there are something that verywell could be a removed "W".
VtwinVince Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Did anyone see the engraved piece offered by Niemann a couple of weeks ago?
ironcross se Posted August 27, 2008 Author Posted August 27, 2008 Did anyone see the engraved piece offered by Niemann a couple of weeks ago? It,s still there. But it is way out of reach for me
Tom Y Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 It,s still there. But it is way out of reach for meI'm glad someone brought that up and hope i'm not going , but doesn't the 1914 style vaulting and pin assembly seem odd for someone who died in 1840?
Guest Darrell Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 What's he asking for it? The answer to that question will probably answer yours
gregM Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 I don't like the orange rust. Orange rust is active rust. not 190 year old rust.I would guess this to be a redone 1914 with forced aging.
Eric Stahlhut Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 fyi weitze has something quite similar for sale....
