:Cat-Scratch: I've never heard of or seen that one before either!

Comrade V.V. Baikov received this per decree of the Deputy Minister-Commander of Bases/Rear Administration of the Armed Forces of the USSR on 22 February 1968.

That was the 50th anniversary of the Red Army so this was no doubt realted to the gigantic celebrations on that date.

Signed by Lieutenant General of Tech Svcs Stolyarov, suggesting either this award was quite significant or the recipient (with no rank listed) was.

    It's a mystery!

thanks for this traduction Rick; I'm annoyed if a guy like you didn't find such a badge. I was convinced it was a known case as there're plenty of different otlichnik badges.

Comrade Baikov was a doctor; if it please you I can post more docs and the archival research. This man deserved a red banner, 2 red stars for trustworthy duty in miuitary hospitals.

Too bad the DESIGN is not printed inside the cover! :banger:

The industrial ones are usually DATED badges, with an industry-specific award booklet (heavy industry, ship building etc etc). Those badges were proudly worn by CIVILIANS, so I woudl assume that such would also have been the case for MILITARY winners of whatever this badge looked like.

But if I have ever seen a photo of one being worn, I don't KNOW it.

I hope one of our Russian members knows what thsi badge looked like.

It not absolutely so. It is known that in Armed forces of the USSR there was a group of people not military men. I cannot make a translation in English of this word. In Russian it had name ?????????????.People worked in army as waiters, , sanitary technicians. In an anniversary of 50 years of the Soviet army military men were awarded by a medal. Civil employees of the Soviet Army received badge. This document confirms rewarding by a badge.

 That looks like an icky aluminum one. Your 1968 was probably (?) in better quality. What a strange pair an award book so nice would have been with THAT! :speechless1:

    Who knew?

I've never seen one either. I have a box of 100 or more unsorted veterans' badges. I just went through them to see if I might have one of these hiding in there. Nope, nary a one.

    Thanks for the lesson seb16trs.
