Hi Guys, I thought it might be interesting/fun, to compile a list of famous battles, maybe even make a top 10 or something. So to that end, heres a few that I`ve racked my brains for, can anyone else come up with some more?

    In no particular order yet....

Rorke`s Drift - The South Wales Borderers 1879

Arnhem Bridge - The Parachute Regiment 1944

Baraclava - The Light Dragoons 1854

    Omdurman - 17/21st Lancers 1899

retreat to Gandamak - 44th Foot (Essex Regiment) 1842

Imjin - The Glostershire Regiment 1952

If we`re going by VC worn, then the 6 VC`s before breakfast - Lancashire Fusiliers, Gallipoli 1915, should be in there, somewhere. With being top heavy for the old Paras, Londonderry 1972, is pretty famous.... More gloriously Goosegreen, Longdon, Wirless Ridge, Tumbledown for the Scots Guards maybe, all 1982?

14th Sikhs Chitral, Thin Red Line at Balaclava, 21 Lancers at Ondermun, Gosters at Imjin spring to mind straight away.

A fascinating question. My suggestions might "stretch" the world view of the "mainstream"? Listing six (as before):

Delhi - Sirmoor Levy (later 2nd Gurkha Rifles) 1857

    Manipur - 43d Bengal Infantry 1891

Defence of Chitral - 4th Kashmir Rifles 1895

Defence of Chakdara - 45th Sikh Regiment 1897

    Gully Ravine (Gallipoli) - 14th K.G.O. (Ferozepoire) Sikhs 1915

Defence of Singapore (and Malaya) - Kapurthala Imperial Service Infantry 1942

    Hi Bobkohima,

as your nickname suggests you simply had to remind all of us of the 4th Royal West Kents and their heroic defence of Kohima. A certain tennis court played a role I believe.

    Have a nice weekend,

    Mike

Hi there, this is my first post but what about the Siege of Kohima with the 4thBn Royal West Kents and the battle for Kohima by the 2nd Division
