Sergeant 08 Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 Yes..........crazy bidding, but I had to have it. It's in this thread............. http://gmic.co.uk/in...opic=46147&st=0 See the TK helmet photo in post #22! I wanted it, because there are only a few early photos which show Wehrwolf members with steel helmets. Congratulations! I did not notice the other thread. That helmet is outstanding!
Robin Lumsden Posted October 16, 2010 Author Posted October 16, 2010 That helmet is outstanding! Back of the helmet..............Brunswick infantry, I think. (2. Kompanie).
Sergeant 08 Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 At the end of ww1 they made some nice skull postcards.
Sergeant 08 Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 (edited) From my collection! ;) Edited October 21, 2010 by Sergeant 08
Robin Lumsden Posted November 1, 2010 Author Posted November 1, 2010 So. Who are THESE guys ????? :jumping:
Robin Lumsden Posted November 1, 2010 Author Posted November 1, 2010 Here is the armband they are wearing. Early Wehrwolf ???? Who knows ?? When photos like this turn up, it is only a matter of time before one comes along showing the RARE, original black skull in wear !!!! Then everyone will want one. :cheeky:
Robin Lumsden Posted November 2, 2010 Author Posted November 2, 2010 Here is the full photo. Taken in Halle. Home of the Wehrwolf.
Robin Lumsden Posted November 2, 2010 Author Posted November 2, 2010 18 months later. Still only two have EVER been seen................. :cheeky:
dante Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 18 months later. Still only two have EVER been seen................. Robin, could this badge on your picture be one of these(as shown)
Robin Lumsden Posted November 2, 2010 Author Posted November 2, 2010 Robin, could this badge on your picture be one of these(as shown) Hello Paul. I don't think so.............wrong shape at the top for the SSOS, I think.
dante Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 Perhaps a kind of event tinnie? Yes you are right, wonder what it is.............
Chris Boonzaier Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 From my collection! I bid on that a few weeks ago.... :-)
Chris Boonzaier Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 18 months later. Still only two have EVER been seen................. Maybe the guy making them, slow painful one by one and by hand in front of the TV just could not be bothered anymore as they did not bring as much as he expected? As long as no tools or production line has to be set up, the amount made depends on how many the maker can be bothered to make. I once set out to make wooden display frames, ended up making 3 out of a planned 20-30, then just could not be bothered.... could stop anytime as it was all cottage industry.... :-)

You are SUCH a tease! I've never seen a helmet like this either........until now. Maybe the guy just got fed up after painting one of them! Edited November 2, 2010 by Robin Lumsden
Chip Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 (edited) Well, what goes around comes around and here we are beginning to talk about the black skull patch again. While I agree with Robin, in that there are many insignia out there that have yet to be seen in a period photo or in other collections (I have been trying to identify this patch for nearly thirty years!), I still agree with Chris.... that this is a fantasy piece. I base that opinion solely on the construction, the materials and the condition of the piece. Having seen several of the original Flammenwerfer patches, it just does not measure up. Far from being the last word on any subject, I don't think we will ever have any proof on this one, as I don't believe there is any to be had. I would, however, be the first to say I was wrong, should that day come. Chip Edited November 2, 2010 by Chip
Robin Lumsden Posted November 2, 2010 Author Posted November 2, 2010 Having seen several of the original Flammenwerfer patches, it just does not measure up. Hello Chip. Personally, I don't think the black TK is necessarily flammenwerfer-related at all. It is more likely (IMHO) a Freikorps or similar item, based on the flammenwerfer TK. Anyway, we all agree to differ on this one. Suffice it to say, I'm happy with it in my collection..............and I'm difficult to please.
Robin Lumsden Posted November 2, 2010 Author Posted November 2, 2010 I think the black TK may end up appearing in a photo like this............
Robin Lumsden Posted November 2, 2010 Author Posted November 2, 2010 ........ here we are beginning to talk about the black skull patch again. Remember...............this was the ORIGINAL subject of this excellent thread...........before someone changed the title !!!! :speechless:
Robin Lumsden Posted November 3, 2010 Author Posted November 3, 2010 Brunswick HR17 flask...............(with Prussian skull !!) 1
Sergeant 08 Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 There are still so many nice things out there!
Robin Lumsden Posted November 3, 2010 Author Posted November 3, 2010 Sailor to tanker!...............
Robin Lumsden Posted November 4, 2010 Author Posted November 4, 2010 Here's a Freikorps Bruessow man in the Stahlhelm. First time I've ever seen this rare variant of the Prussian skull actually being worn.
Robin Lumsden Posted November 4, 2010 Author Posted November 4, 2010 It looks like he has a standard Prussian TK on the other collar patch. 1
