Chris Boonzaier Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 I have just been offered a cased red cross medal 3rd class with the cardboard overcase saying "ony to be opened by the awardee"...Have not seen it yet... what should I look for? Any ideas?I guess the case and overcase is much more intresting than tzhe medal itself?ThanksChris
Guest Rick Research Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Which type of medal? The nice round bronze one? The intermediate round zinky one? Or the "colonial" fore-and-aft holed shaped zinker?
Stogieman Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 These are around Chris, usually in nice double-boxed shape anything under $75USD would be a great price.
Mike Huxley Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Chris, Here's a couple of pics of my 3rd Class award in it's case with outer wrapper. I got it from Detlev a couple of years ago and I think it cost me 100Euros. This is the bronze one that Rick spoke about.
Stogieman Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 Yep, the early (non-zinky) ones are the nicest for 3.kl. The Second Class with the red enameled cross is pretty spiffy looking too.
Chris Boonzaier Posted December 7, 2005 Author Posted December 7, 2005 Hi,apparently it is zink. It is not round but comes to a slightly pointy shape at the top and is mounted on a bow of some sort. Will be able to supply better details soon.
Mike Huxley Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 (edited) Chris, This is my bronze one on a ribbon, I picked it up for a song .... ?3.00 on eBay.[attachmentid=18510]and the reverse[attachmentid=18511]It seems that it was stiched to the ribbon the wrong way round. David Gregory Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 I have an example in bronze with the award document and a steel version mounted on a bar that can be seen at http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=1201&hl=gotha
Claudio Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 (edited) Dear all,My brother has a bunch of them... here they are! This in one is in steel/iron... Edited December 8, 2005 by Claudio
Claudio Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 a nice couple... with miniature! 2nd and 3rd class... The first class (Steckkreuz, needle pin) is extremely rare...
Chris Boonzaier Posted December 10, 2005 Author Posted December 10, 2005 From what I see the ring was removed to sew it directly to the ribbon. it seems there was a pin of some sort, but no longer there....
Chris Boonzaier Posted December 10, 2005 Author Posted December 10, 2005 And in its box. bad flashwork makes the writing unreadable on the outer box
David Gregory Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 Detlev Niemann had a bronze one with the case and outer carton for EUR 95 yesterday.
Paul R Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 I bought this one for about 20 dollars a year ago... The bow indicated award to a woman... right?
Paul R Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 (edited) and EK2.How much can one expect to pay for a second or first class these days? Can someone please post a pic of a first class?RegardsPaul Edited December 10, 2005 by Paul Reck
