The euro is killing me!!! I remember the good old days when I could buy overseas. That is gone!!! I'll pick up once in a while a document here in the states, but thats rare. If only 1 dollar = 1 euro...

I remember to days of 2.25DM to the dollar. On my first trip to Germany in 2000 I paid 50DM for a room in Gunzenhasuen at the show. At that exchange rate it cost me $20.22. Last year when I went to same room was 48 euros which, at the time, was $67.23. So thing has tripled in price.

hi, its not just the euro, its now the weak pound. high charges set by auction houses, some around 25% on the price plus 20% vat. and the number of reproductions up for sale. I have a very small colection of items, a few muskets, carbines swords and sabres. but would love a lot more, as i am sure we all would.

For me the weak dollar/euro/pound is a godsend. I well remember the days when the AUD was 50 cents or less and as low as 33 pence.

Now the wheel has turned and I can buy cognac rather more cheaply some win and some lose as the wheel spins.

I don't mean to gloat but it has been a long time coming. As to auction houses, if your only recourse is to postal/online bids you are on a hiding to nothing. I just don't bother these days.
