demir Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 (edited) GENTLEMEN, HERE IS THE REGULATION ISSUED FOR THE WAR MEDAL and CHANGES MADE LATER: REGULATION FOR WAR MEDAL A) 14 Rebiulahir 1333 / 16 Subat 1330 / 1.3.1915 1. A bronze war medal is established for those who showed bravery and usefulness in the war. 2. War Medal can be awarded to those persons who show bravery and usefulness without differentiating rank and title. These persons can be nationals of the Ottoman Empire or allied forces and navies and voluntary nurses and civilians within the armies and navies. 3. There is only one class of War Medal and it can be worn in formal uniform four fingers under the right breast on the jacket without a ribbon. 4. War Medal can be worn on any kind of dress. When the Medal is not worn, the soldiers can worn a 2 cm red ribbon from the second hole in the tunic button and civilians on their collar. 5. A certificate is given with the War Medal without charge. 6. War medal will be inherited by the children and family but can not be worn by them. 7. Those who do not receive the bronze War Medal are not eligible for "participation to war certificate" for their silver and gold Liyakat and Imtiyaz medals. 8. Ministers of War and Finance are responsible for the implementation of this regulation. 9. This regulation is effective from 11 Ramazan 1332 / 21 Temmuz 1330 / 3.8.1914 B) This Regulation had been changed on 10 Zilkadde 1333 / 6 Eylul 1331 / 19.9.1915 : A sentence is added into the Fourth article of the Regulation (above A) dated 16 Subat 1330 / 1.3.1915: 1. When the Medal is awarded to combatants, the ribbon of the War Medal will be red in the middle and white on the sides, and when awarded to non-combatants the ribbon will be white in the middle and red on the sides. (The dimensions of the ribbon for combantants are: red 29 mm., with 5 mm. white stripes, 2.5 mm. from each edge. For non-combatants, the colors are reversed.) 2. This is effective from 22 Ramazan 1333 / 21 Temmuz 1331 / 3.8.1915. 3. Minister of War is responsible for the implementation of this regulation. C) 11 days later on 21 Zilkadde 1333 or 17 Eylul 1331 or 30.9.1915 the word BRONZE is erased from the articles 1, 5 and 7 (original regulation.above A). The pictures of the certificate (BERAT) mentioned in Article 5 (above A) and of the COMBATANT and NON-COMBATANT ribbons (from my collection - very recently acquired) mentioned in the Change to the Regulation (above B). The certificate for the TWM was signed by the Deputy Supreme Commander and Minister of War Enver Pasa.
