The 10th ribbon on the ribbon bar does not look like a Sudetenland ribbon to me2014.gif ...it looks like a plain ribbon, with no stripes etc. Maybe it denotes one of his foreign awards? It would be in a suitable place if so!

Kind regards

Pierce

Looking around the other ribbons of Olbricht, the 10th ribbon it might be red when, it more seemed to the coloration of other ribbons that we can be reddened.

Social welfare medal maybe.

Social welfare medal maybe.

Don't think it could be that as it was red with white stripes. The 10th ribbon appears to be the one colour.

Trying to determine a soldier's ribbons from a photograph is very difficult at best, folly at worst. The way to determine the awards on a specific bar in a photo requires one to first date the photo. Trying to identify awards from a photo alone won't work. A good example is von Rundstedt. He had different ribbon bars for different unforms! His Sudetenland ribbon didn't look "right"either (when he wore it). Look at Rommel's single Italian ribbon. It is solid blue. In the photos it looks like "stripes." His award is the silver bravey medal which takes a blue ribbon.

My advice: forget the photos - rely on the records.

The awards I cited for this officer are correct.

Arnim,

I do agree with you to rely on the records and was in no way saying your information was inaccurate just because it doesn't "seem" to match the above photo. At best it is difficult to determine the exact combination on a ribbon bar unless the picture is crystal clear.....or in colour! :cheeky:

Kind regards

Matt

Hello Gentlemen, thx a lot for all infos.

I agree with you. Searching in records is more easy to find the awards.

BTW, can anyone provide a list of foreign awards of Olbricht?

Thx in advance

Cheers

    • Two years down the line.   My mother-in-law passed away this summer, as did one of her sisters-in-law.   My exhibition opened, and we had a marvellous speakers' night with four Peacekeeping veterans, including a Meritorious Service Medal winner.  But Covid closed it down in March 2020, and while still there it hasn't reopened.

    • At work the standard indian tea such as PG tips is referred to as chimp tea. This goes back to the days when we had a Spanish girl working for us whose command of the English language was extremely limited. One lunch she said she was going to the shop could she get anything. I asked if she could get a pack of tea bags. She returned with some disgusting herbal concoction. I tried to explain what was required but without success. I then remembered PG tips had a picture of a chimpanzee on the packe
    • When I read Lapsang Souchong i decided to post something about these Tea . Many years ago I dont  know about Lapsang until I read James Michener book Centennial and the description of the savour of the Lapasang as a mix of tar and salt & smoked made me proof . It was exact ! and i liked it since then .
