The Royal Armoured Corps of WWII.

In September 1940, "Distinguishing Marks" were intoduced for wear on Battle Dress by personnel of The RAC (& other regiments & corps),

RAC officers wearing a yellow backing to their rank insignia & all ranks a 2" x 1/4" yellow & red cloth strip worn horizontally on the upper arms, yellow to the front.

Black embroidered on khaki worsted slip-on shoulder titles, also found in printed form, were introduced at the beginning of WWI for many regiments, metal shoulder titles not being intended for wear on Battle Dress, n June 1943 these were replaced by curved cloth titles worn at the top of both arms, worked or printed in various colours, depending on the unit.

In the case of The RAC, these consisted of "ROYAL ARMOURED CORPS" in red on yellow.

The WWII plastic economy issue RAC cap badge, in light bronze colour, this example manufactured by A Stanley & Sons, Walsall.

It was sealed on 31/1/43 & a total of 144,592 were made between 6/1/44 - 20/6/45, all by this manufacturer:

A chromed badge of the Royal Engineers, John Gaylor in his "Military Badge Collecting" states that this badge was worn by RE bandsmen, but some collectors consider it to have been worn by RE units serving with The RAC.
