Ferdinand Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 I've encountered two different varations of the Russian 50 and 60 Years of Victory Medals. First of all the 50 Years of Victory Medal: Some comparisons in close-up (1200 DPI):
Ferdinand Posted July 24, 2010 Author Posted July 24, 2010 And similar differences on the 60 Years of Victory Medal. Are these made by different mints or is the one of poorer quality an unofficial issue? Some close-ups:
Ferdinand Posted July 26, 2010 Author Posted July 26, 2010 The first one has an LMD mint mark on the ring, the second one has nothing.
TacHel Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 The maker's mark on the 60th ann. medal (on mine anyway) is on the reverse center at the very bottom below the bow. On the 50th, it's on the reverse of the suspension loop.
Ferdinand Posted July 26, 2010 Author Posted July 26, 2010 Unfortunately I don't have access to my medals at this moment. In my previous message I was referring to the 50 Years of Victory Medal (the first one has an LMD mint mark on the reverse of the ring and the second one has nothing). The 60s both have marks. At the moment I can only provide these poor scans:

Unmarked medals were manufactured by Moscow Mint Leningrad pieces have better quality and also slightly more rare than Moscow pieces If I remember correctly 12 different variants of docs should be in existence for this one Cheers, Nick Edited November 10, 2013 by JapanX

SergioV Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 You are forgetting about GB, US, etc ... Yes but for Usa and UK there is not a specific document, they used the version of the Russian Federation
JapanX Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Yes, but maybe our colleges mark them as variations anyway? All I can say is that once I read somewhere that there are 12 variations of docs for this medal. Maybe just another phaleristic gossip
