Can anyone fully understand this inscription? It looks like an Easter gift from 1909?, but I'm not sure I understand the rest of it.

    Hi Claudius,

    you must read it as:

    Seinem lieben Heinr[ich] Würzburg

    zur freundlichen Erinnerung Ostern 1909

To his dear [student comrade] Heinrich Würzburg as friendly reminder

That is usual for friendly students at the end of a semester, here at the end of the winter semester in 1909.

It is a "Weinzipfel", with the "Zirkel" of the fraternity. Each society has their own colours which are derived from their individual coat of arms.

    See "Zipfel und Zipfelbund":

    http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Couleur

Zirkel is the monogram of a fraternity, please see here for example:

If you know the location of the university, it could be possible, to find the fraternity.

Thank you Uwe! This is very illuminating. So, this was a gift to Heinrich Würzburg from the fraternity, or from a fellow fraternity member?

Location of university -unfortunately I don't know where he went to university. The only clue I have is that Heinrich Würzburg was from Ruess, Schloss Ernstbrunn.

Thank you for the links. Those were very helpful.
