    Infantry Weapons collection....

    Recommended Posts

ALL WEAPONS ARE NEUTRALISED ACCORDING TO LOCAL LAW!

I had made it my objective to collect all the infantry weapons that were standard issue in Infantry Regiments up to 1917 (Simply because I cannot be bothered to chase down a MP18 and dont like the Tankgewehr...)

Soooooo.... here we are... Cannot think of anything missing? Maybe a few Hand Grenade varaitions?

You should know better than to ask.... The guys reading this could probably work up a very, very long wish list for you.

The Gew88 or Commission Rifle doesn't seem to be in the photo. More than a few troops were given them. Revolvers (i.e., the "Reichsrevolver")and semi-autos (besides the P08, there are quite a few others that were made by Mauser, Walther, etc for NCO's and some specialist troops. Oh yeah...flare pistols can be used for more than signaling, and during daylight at close range might be more intimidating than an American "trench trombone" aka the Winchester m97 pump shotgun. Then there's the foreign stuff that was captured and used.

Got any infantry spades and e-tools? The short handled jobber with a sharpened edge can be a nasty close up weapon, and every infantryman was expected to be carrying one. The special "machine gunner's shovel" would go nicely with the '08 along with optics for the gun.

    Hi Les,

have a couple of Gew 88s, forgot em for the photo.

I hate the Reichsrevolver :-(... but think I can squeeze out of buying one by saying they mostly seem to have been with Arty and Cav. You are right though... I will have to get another P08 after having sold mine ages ago.

Flare gun could be needed at a stretch, the problem is neutralising them, the holes in the Barrel cannot be hidden.

Have a few infantry spades, but the MG Gunner spades are simply tooooo expensive :-( (Have 2 sets of optics in a crate somewhere).

Unfortunately putting the MW in the room meant mothballing a bunch of uniforms.

I remember once buying a bandoleer, it arrived in the mail... what I did not realise (and so obviously a nice surprise) it still had its original rounds in it, dated 1918 !!!

I got a special hammer that allows you to remove and replace heads (so you cannot see the round was ver touched) and emtied them right away.... but that was a neat buy indeed.... !!!

    Chris,

I was going through some old posts and saw that you were looking for a MP-18.I. Here in the US, there was a guy offering a deactivated MP-18.I. Here is the link: http://www.gunbroker...?Item=279901657. The auction is now over, but you might be able to contact him and see if he still has it for sale. This auction just closed this week.

Chris, if you don't already have one I'd suggest a Broomhandle Mauser complete with wooden shoulder stock and leather rig for it. They look very impression and exotic and were definitely used throughout the war and into WW2 as well.

    Hi,

    thanks,

I have a bunch more since then, must get around to photographing it.

Lets see some of your goodies :-)

Well it just so happens that today is "tidy the gun room day" so it may be respectable enough to get some pictures later... ;-)

    Regards

    Andrew

    Wow... Nice!!

And it is indeed a bit of everything!! Very nice indeed!!

Can we see some close ups of your MG08 in the MG thread? :-)

Yes a bit of everything, I guess first and foremost would be Maxims and Imperial German then Grenades and then it filters down to whatever takes my fancy. I do like items associated with New Zealand history, quite a few of the items in the collection were NZ war trophy's which are just that bit more special.

Will try and oblige with pics of the 08's later today ;-)

Looking for an rough old sled or parts for restoration CHEAP is the order of the day!

Wow, that's quite an armory!

What period is the lemon squeezer from? I've always wanted a WWI period one, but the time to find those has come and gone. I was lucky enough to find a complete WWI Aussie uniform back in the 1980s.
