Hello everyone, I just picked up this medal today for my collection. Can any one tell me why the colors on the ribbon were used??

    Thank you very much

    Hello Lorenzo,

The black colour is used because of the mourning and red colour recalls shed blood on the Yser battlefield. About 40 000 Belgian soldiers died there.

Thank you very much for the information.

That was the very first Belgian medal I bought, about 20 years ago  Now, I have a few more.

    Regards,

    Dolfek.

I would like to see some of your issues of this medal

    Thank you

Yes. You could get a Croix de Guerre (with a palm or lion), a commemorative war medal (with a few bars) and the WWI victory medal. All belgian of course. That would be a basic and nice group.

This medal was awarded to french troops too. So, you may add some french medals instead. I personally have mine in a belgian group.

    Regards,

    Dolfek.
