redeagleorder Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Does any one have an example of a Lippe Detmold Military Merit Medal with a mark under the wreath on the side displaying the rose. On an example that i have found for sale by emedals there is a mark which i can't make out completely clearly, but seems to read G. LOOSDIR. Is this a common mark or something personalised? Many thanks in advance.
redeagleorder Posted December 12, 2011 Author Posted December 12, 2011 Update: I also found this mark on an arts and science medal from anhalt, but also on a couple of a coins?! Could anyone please help me figure out if the mark belongs to the above medal, as i know it is rare, with less than 2000 issued. Thanks a lot. Matthew
speedytop Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Hi Matthew, it is a common mark. G. LOOS DIR Gottfried Bernhard Loos, Direktor der Loos´schen Medaillen-Prägeanstalt (head/director of the Berlin Medallic Mint). http://www.numispedi...tfried_Bernhard http://www.smb.museu...ontent=0&side=0 Uwe
zorg Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 It's the manufacturer: G.Loos. dir. = Gottfried Bernhard Loos (1774-1843) direxit (latin for 'have made') ...G.Loos have made this medal.
