Buttons on the shoulderboards

If the company number is found on the tunic with the shoulder boards... what happens if a guy is transfered to the staff? Should he then just wear a normal crown button with the shoulder board?

If it was before the war, then I would guess yes, but once the war got started, I don't think switching out buttons was on anyone's radar.
