An interesting perspective on "hooks and eyes" could be obtained from Manchu red cross medal that was introduced (according to Peterson) in 1938.
No "standard gear" in sight folks ;)
Or this one
Or this
It doesn`t matter - regular member or special supporting member medal we are talking about ...
These sewed eyes are everywhere ;)
Same story with worn out ribbons and replacement, brand new one`s .
Here comes a nice example from my collection
On the left is "old" ribbon and on the right brand new replacement ribbon (authentic one of course )
Actually the only ribbon that I saw without early ("early" in case of official japanese orders and medals) "sewed" style of gear attachement is this one. One with the glued stripes ... :)
Quite innovative
Same sewed story with japanese Red Cross medals.
From early to aluminum ;)
Note where the mark is ;)
