Markgraf
Hi Gentlemen! I Don't know exactly what is it. The star and the crescent seems Turkish however the cypher has Latin characters. Maybe a shako part or a bearskin plate? Please help!
Dave Danner
That style of crescent and sun seems more North African to me. Algeria, Morocco, Mauritania or Tunisia. So maybe related to French colonial, and thus the Latin characters.
demir
Not Ottoman. There is a monogram MS or SM.
Markgraf
Dave, demir: I confess the North African origin never entered my mind. Thanks!
infantry
This is certainly from North Africa but not French dominions. Three crescents and stars were the coat of arms of Hidiv of Egypt. So this badge must be related with Egypt as a part of British empire. Regards
Markgraf
infantry: Thank You! On the backside of the Khedive's Star can be seen the monogram of Muhammed Tewfik Pasha: a similar interweaving M and T letters. According these the M and S means Muhammad Sa'id Pasha?
