AWS type 3 core.......4 bolt version

Recommended Posts

That one wasn't a bargain but I had to get it-a damned hard to get version of the rare 3rd core type from AWS.Not in the best condition but anyway-the pictures are from Weitzes Site, but the cross is here at my side!

Here is a thought...

A special cross for Buddhist Prussian officers...

I was just imagining the patience someone needed to crew this on and off... :-)

Nice cross, but sorry, this is 1st core AWS, if you use WAF´s (streptile´s) terminology, of course. Third core looks like this (see photo). And the most rare is 2nd core.

Hi,

I am guessing that it is "Type 1, Type 2 etc" as they have been cataloged as opposed to "First type, second type etc" as they were produced?

It makes a world of difference as I suppose we cannot date them to see which was produces 1st , 2nd or 3rd?

Best

Chris

I am talking about WAF terminology, I don´t know if there is some other. As I know, they are catalogued as they are produced. 1st core was first, 2nd core was cheaper pendant in the same time (that´s why always seen in alloy) and third core was used during third reich.

PS: I don´t know if you see the photo of obverse, because I don´t, but when I want to edit the post, photo is there.

Hi,

I think Trevor and Micha are both right up there when it comes to 1914 EK experts... and I think they each have their own Classification system.

best

Well-I calles that ond 3rd type becaus it's the rarest of the 3 core types-that's all.I wonder if we will find all 3 types with every single reverse and attachment system we know....I own another 1st class with this core type-but it's a vaulted pinback with smooth reverse but with the AWS hallmark-unfortunately no pic at the moment. from what I have seen so far the AWS family is as big as the CD family is......my wanted list gets longer and longer...

Nice cross Micha,

For a long time, I think I had one of the rarest AWS vaiations

posted on the forums. I believe you've just topped me.

Nicely done.

I don't think so-this is the 2nd of this variation I've ever seen-your cross is still unique......never seen another one!
