Simon Orchard
Just arrived, a nice little 4 doc grouping. The decorations themselves are not uncommon but a grouping to a LW pilot onboard one of the Kriegsmarine's capital ships is definitely not your average everyday find! His 4 year long service medal received whilst in training.A few months later and he's qualified as a pilot
Simon Orchard
Assigned to the heavy cruiser HIPPER he picks up an EKII.Finally his recconnaissance flight clasp in bronzeThe story doesn't stop there though. At some point Mohrmann was transferred to K?.Fl.St. 3./406 and swapped the Ar196 he'd flown onboard Hipper with a Bv138. Promoted oberfeldwebel at some point Mohrmann's war and life came to an end in a flying accident on the 14 July 1943. His Bv138 crashed shortly after takeoff from the North Norwegian seaplane base of Billefjord, he and the flight engineer were killed, the navigator and radio op were wounded. After the war all German graves in North Norway were moved to either Narvik or as in his case to the big German war cemetery of Botn-Rognan, East of the town of Bod?.
