    Selective Service System Medal WW2

    Recommended Posts

Just acquired this medal which was awarded for Selective Service System World War 2.

On the reverse is written " Awarded in the name of the Congress of The United States for Faithful and Loyal Service".

Medal is mounted on Loop Suspender with original ribbon. Un named and un numbered.

This medal was awarded for exceptional service or for significant achievement or Inspiration to others for those whom worked in the selective service system. I believe this was awarded to both military and civilian personnel for their work on the Draft board during WW2.

It would be interesting to know if any members have relatives who have been awarded this medal or indeed been awarded it themselves. I'm assuming it would have been awarded to both male and female personnel?

An under-appreciated medal IMO, and a particularly eye catching medal as well. I have recently seen one in a mini group and have the luck of a custom ribbon set with one as well. While mostly awarded to civilians serving on draft boards (most of the time without pay) there were also awards made to flag level officers who established and/or supervised draft boards.
