E Williams Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 (edited) The left arm badge above the red cross armband, would that be a medical oval with winding snake? Can someone translate please the writing? (Anton in uniform 1914/15, Greetings, For duty time in the World War is what I see). Thanks Edited November 12, 2013 by E Williams

E Williams Posted November 12, 2013 Author Posted November 12, 2013 Can anyone take a good stab at the two medals on his chest? He's holding a cavalry sabre, I see.
Naxos Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 (edited) can you post a larger image of the medals? - one is the Prussian 1897 Centennial Medal Edited November 12, 2013 by Naxos
E Williams Posted November 12, 2013 Author Posted November 12, 2013 can you post a larger image of the medals? - one is the Prussian 1897 Centennial Medal I copied it off the web. I shall try with what I have.

E Williams Posted November 12, 2013 Author Posted November 12, 2013 The other is not long Prussian Long Service, it's round.
E Williams Posted November 12, 2013 Author Posted November 12, 2013 I take that back, it could be a Prussian Long Service Medal and considering what you said was a 1897 Centennial Medal, they would seem to go together in 1914/15
E Williams Posted November 12, 2013 Author Posted November 12, 2013 (edited) Looking at Anton's age in 14/15, it could be a Landwehr Service Medal. Edited November 12, 2013 by E Williams
Chip Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 (edited) I think that is a sword for Train troops. He also wears the mounted troops belt buckle. I also think that thing above the neutrality armband is just a flaw. The Sanitäter patch would have been worn on the right upper arm.ChipWhoooHoo 2,000 posts. Now I'm up to one tenth of Chris's number! :) Edited November 13, 2013 by Chip

Now I'm up to one tenth of Chris's number! I thought the buckle was for mounted troops, would that not coincide with the sabre? But being sanitates, he could be part of a Trains Sanitates unit too. I hope to get more info once the photo arrives.
