TacHel Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 I should check my old drawers more often... What are your thoughts on this item? The writing seems a bit squashed, or is it a poor copy?
VtwinVince Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Not the greatest quality, but looks like a period replacement copy.
Streptile Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 I agree, this type is known as a "zweitstück" but it's not an original awarded type.
saschaw Posted January 18, 2022 Posted January 18, 2022 (edited) I agree with everything Streptile and VtwinVince said, but it's noteworthy this seems to be the small sized medal that was called Kriegerverdienstmedaille. A Prussian "Kriegsverdienstmedaille", as TacHel did name it in the header, never existed. However, whoever made this lower quality replacement piece mixed things up, as we often do, and used the design of the Militär-Ehrenzeichen II. Klasse. That's the big one, a bravery award mostly awarded to Prussian soldiers. This Kriegerverdienstmedaille, on the other hand, was both a peace and war time award, mainly given to foreign (non-Prussian!) soldiers and even as a bravery award to Native soldiers and policemen in the colonies. VtwinVince Posted January 18, 2022 Posted January 18, 2022 Hmmm, would be interesting to get the diameter of this thing.
chechaco1 Posted March 18, 2022 Posted March 18, 2022 (edited) German Military Merit medal "Krieger verdienst" for an Australian. and what is shown at the beginning of the topic, I would call a miniature, a minion. Edited March 18, 2022 by chechaco1
Ian Posted March 18, 2022 Posted March 18, 2022 A Krieger verdienst for an Australian? More information please?

And local "colored people" served in them, who were also awarded. This DKVM somehow ended up in Australia. I don't know anything else. Edited March 18, 2022 by chechaco1
