Markgraf Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 Today's surprise find on the nearby flea market (Hungary). Sadly some idiot nailed it trough... Somebody can tell me the age of this piece? The diameter is cca. 15 cm, no markings.
peter monahan Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 The unit is still in existence, using Scimitar and Spartan AFV, most latley in Afghanistan, so in theory, any time from 1902 to the present but I suspect WWII or shortly after, possibly as part of the British forces in Germany, which would explains its presence in Hungary.
Markgraf Posted April 21, 2014 Author Posted April 21, 2014 Peter: Thanks! Maybe I can fix the hole...
peter monahan Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 I think it gives it character! Maybe nailed to a wall, shot in drunken target practice or... who knows?
Mervyn Mitton Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 You would be unwise to do more then give it a good clean. The damage is over the King's Crown. Very nice that they included the Battle Honour for the Boer War. Mervyn
Markgraf Posted April 22, 2014 Author Posted April 22, 2014 Ok, Gentlemen no repairing just cleaning. I will show pictures in the next month (I'm on holiday now).
Mervyn Mitton Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Marvellous what a little care and attention can do. Seal the Brass with a little matt varnish - it comes off easily and will keep the polished look. Well done. Mervyn
