What period is this jacket? WWII or post-war (1954 Green Uniform)?

Recommended Posts

Hello. I'm a newbie at this forum so excuse my fail. I'm from Ukraine and I'm interested in US Army uniforms. I've got this jacket and I wonder - if this a WWII or post-war (Korea, Vietnam) 1954 Army Green Service Uniform (Shade 44)?

That is not a US Army jacket. It is US Marine Corps and I can not testify to vintage.

Yea, my bad. Of course it's USMC coat. But I sure that there are wrong insignia on the collar. I must be GAE. And this coat came from a US citizen, 70 year old man that served in a Marine Corp a long time ago (Vietnam vet if I'm not mistaken).

The jacket is that of the US Marine Corps Master Sergeant with 20 years of service. It is not WW2- the stripes would not have crossed rifles nor would the belt be made of the uniform material (it would be leather). This jacket was still in use when I entered the Navy (1976) but, I understand, it has been done away with since. I was sorry to hear that as, in my opinion, it was the most "Marine-looking" uniform they had (I was never that crazy about the blue dress uniform).

Thanx for the answer! I'm just curious when this uniform's been done away. 'Cause in the 1992 movie "A Few Good Men" I saw exactly this kind of uniform with such belt. And in MARINE CORPS ORDER P1020.34G W/CH 1-5 which is about MC Uniform Regulations and it's dated 31 Mar 03.

The main question - is this uniform still in use?

Maxim- you're absolutely correct, this uniform is still in use and, in this case, I'm happy I'm wrong... I think the Marine Corps Green Service uniform is one of the US's nicest looking uniforms. It was the khaki service uniform (tan) that was phased out. Sorry for the misinformation- my bad.

Hello Maxim,

It is a new or fairly current uniform. I would like to add that the gold buttons do not belong. In thoe holes there should be a pair of eagle globe and anchors. Hope you can get some. That jacket belonged to a career Marine.

Best... George
