Guest Darrell
When looking at this medal, you always think of the English Channel or North Atlantic Operations. You would think that not many were issued after 1942ish.But I was surprised that these awards were issued right to the end in 1945. They also were awarded for operations down south (Adriatic, Aegean Sea etc.). In Formans Guide to Documents, I saw one award for 1945.Anyone else have some background to this interesting and under appreciated award?
Marcus H
Here's a citation for one, I've all the other doc's to this guy but no photo's though, he went on to get the EK on the 6 May 1945.
Marcus H
And another badge, a zincer but with flanges to hold the hinge in place, a not so common variant.

Guest Rick Research
jumping Thrilled to see the "Dorpm?ller type" civil issue award document there in post number 7, Marcus. For some "military type" documents, see threadhttp://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=641Launched in 1920, the 6,503 BRT "Afrika" was sunk by British destroyers 17 April 1940 off Bergen, returning with a load of iron ore from Narvik.
