Odd German Spade?

Guys,

This has been its carrier for a while as visible from the rust pattern.  The handle reminds me of the wire cutter handles but it looks like it is properly fitted and not a bodge job.  At least there is a clue in the manufacturers logo still visible as Germania Werk Berlin somewhere.  Could it be an East German product?  The company is still going but has very little about its wartime activity in its history page.

Any thoughts as to age?

Thanks for that, thought so, the carrier is a bit cheeky since it is identical to the second war, they must have moves the belt loops down later in production.
