Jim R Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Just received this nice EKII spange document with write-up and other documents. The documents are for Medic Max Knappe. Can someone translate the write-up for me? Thank you for your assistance. Jim
Chris Boonzaier Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 That is one very sexy group indeed!A slight pity the WW1 EK doc is missing, but the group itself is really nice, the citation fantastic!
Bernhard H.Holst Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Hello. To summarize the description of the deed(s) that led to the award it was of note that during a bombing attack which killed a number of troops several were severely wounded and were in exposed positions. Uffz. Knappe retrieved them and sheltered and treated them without being intimidated by further bombing and strafing. He distinguished himself on two other occasions.Bernhard H. Holst
Jock Auld Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 A brave man, I think I am correct in stating that within the British Army our medics have won the most VCs, it must be a common trait for medics all round. Glad the group is pretty well intact! Thanks for posting it.
Jim R Posted June 27, 2015 Author Posted June 27, 2015 Who signed the Krim and Kuban documents? I have tried to search and can't find. Thanks, Jim

Brian R Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 I love this group for a number reasons. Firstly, EKs to medical personal are amongst my favorites (both WWI and WWII) and I am super partial to any award that includes documentation as to how or why the award was made. Also, I find Spange documents from the mid-war years to be relatively uncommon. It seems that most were awarded during the early days - Polish Campaign, French Campaign and the first year of Barbarossa.
turtle Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 Very interesting group, especially with the other citations and the document describing his deeds!!
