Another interesting Finnish Medal

Recommended Posts

Here is my newest addition to my collection, a simple looking medal but very seldom seen

It is the medal for Peasants March against communism July 7th 1930 , it was the extreme right wing Lappo Movement who organized a march to Helsinki with 12 000 people.

How many medals that where struck is unknown to me,but since the Lappo was banned in 1932 I suppose not many of these medals was saved.

Wow!  That medal is connected to an important period in Finnish history.  I could see it in a Helsinki museum that has a display on the uprising.

10 000 medals were made in Turku. Quite common imo.

The man pictured on the obverse is Vihtori Kosola.

There are also a few other collectable items releated to Lapua Movement.

Does it have an engraving on the rim? I bought one and to my surprise it was engraved to a Swedish speaking captain. I guess that it's a private commission?

I've heard they were intolerant to the Swedish speaking population but I think that's an after construction. I also bought a small print, a recruitment pamphlet in Swedish, from the same seller.
