saxon lions
I have read somewhere in the past although I cannot now find my source that when the Saxon Grenadier Life Guard (Kgl. Sächs.1. (Leib-)Grenadier-Regiment Nr.100 ) originally adopted the 1910 Field Grey uniform, they had as an extra regimental distinction of red piping on both the top and bottom of the collar. Is this true and if so does anyone have a photograph illustrating this feature, if possible for an NCO. Any help would be appreciated.
ccj
Seems the LGR100 had red piping in all the locations many guard units had. Here's my tunic to example. I don't know any collars that were piped top and bottom but if socChip would know. The cuffs are piped top and bottom and the skirt is piped red. KMB
Interesting. I never saw that style of pattern on Treße but hey we learn new things everyday.
Chip
The Tresse is the so-called Garde pattern. It was only used for Garde type units, including non-Prussian Garde units, like this one. In German is it called "Gemusterte Unteroffiziertresse", meaning "patterned" as opposed to the more common "Glatte" or smooth pattern. Chip Also, there were no stand and fall collars (Klappkragen) with piping on the top edge. Only standing collars could have piping along the top edge.
