Help needed to ID Lions Head Belt buckle

Recommended Posts

Does anyone recognize this buckle?

It is cast brass and may have been gold gilt at one time.

It has the look of a typical late 19th early 20th century US military buckle.

The lion is in 3D relief.

It measures 2 3/4" X 1 7/8"

Thank you in advance.

I know a tiny bit about early 19th century US uniforms and such  [not 20th century so much] and I would have expected an eagle rather than a lion.  The lion is, for me, a British symbol or, going world wide, Empire / Commonwealth and some European armies.  Just my two cents worth.

Thank you Sir.

It has been a real head scratcher for me.

One of many in my lifetime. LOL
