numis Posted November 9, 2020 Posted November 9, 2020 Can anyone provide any information on Dutch Honours and Awards granted in Dutch territories which later became British territories ( eg Ceylon, Cape of Good Hope ) during the time that they were under Dutch control before they came under British control ?
Marcon1 Posted November 9, 2020 Posted November 9, 2020 Hi Numis, You should look for V.O.C. medals/decorations as they were the ones that gave them to individuals (Most of them, if not all, where one offs). I've seen a list on the internet in the past about those from Cape Town, but unfortunately I can't find it anymore (forgot what it was called). Did find this one for you. Honorary Medal Awarded by the VOC to Ysbrant Godske for the Construction of the Castle at the Cape of Good Hope, anonymous, 1677 engraving, h 8cm × w 5cm × l 42cm × w 493gr gold (this one is in the Dutch Rijksmuseum). With kind regards, Marcon1.
paul wood Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 i am not aware of any general VOC awards, as Marconi mentions they tend to be one offs, if anyone knows of any general awards I woild be interested to hear. p
