GERMAN HONOURS AND AWARDS IN LATER ON BRITISH TERRITORIES

Can anyone provide any information on German Honours and Awards ( Imperial , States , local ) granted in territories that were German but later on came under British control ( eg Cameroons, South West Africa, Tanganyika ).Please deal with each territory separately

The Colonial Medal (Kolonial-Denkmünze) was a medal of the German Empire established on 13 June 1912 by Kaiser Wilhelm II The medal and clasps were awarded retroactively for participation in military operations in the German colonies.^[1] Exceptions were participants in the Boxer Rebellion 1900-01, and German South-West Africa in the years 1904-08. These operations were eligible for their own unique commemorative medal.

Description

The medal is made of bronze the obverse of which depicts the right-facing bust of Wilhelm II in uniform, with the initials W II. The reverse has oak leaves on the right and a laurel branch on the left. In the center is the imperial crown which sits above the inscription "DEN TAPFEREN STREITERN FÜR DEUTSCHLANDS EHRE" ("The brave warriors for Germany's honor"). The ribbon is white with four thin red lines in the center and black stripes on the edges.

Claps

The medal was awarded with claps which were manufactured of gold plated brass. Claps were mounted on the ribbon of the medal.

German Imperial South West Africa Campaign Medal 1904-1906

KALAHARI 1908, OMARURU, OMAHEKE, WATERBERG, ONGANJIRA, HEREROLAND. Bronze, 32.5 mm.

Outside of the campaign medals , what other awards ( Imperial and States ) were  made  in various German colonial possessions (a)up to WW1  and (b) during WW1 before the British conquests and occupations ( eg a few hundred  IC's in GSWA ;  and for the troops under Von Lettow in E.Africa ? ) 

Any differences in eligibiity for locals / natives as opposed to Germans? 

Any awards of local origin ( eg Crosses of Krieger Vereins noted for GSWA ) ?

Thanks for the references, 

After reading them I am unsure as to whether non-Europeans / Africans in the Schutztruppen were awarded the  1914 Iron Cross  and the later 1914-8 War Honour Cross . Can anyone enlighten me ?

 

Still of interest would be details of any awards originating in the colonies themselves

I  have written and had published for the public good over 50 journal articles on ODM as well as a major standard reference work  of two volumes and 1,657 pages on ODM.

Wonderful, congratulations. Share, and who knows, you may receive..... So far, all you have done on GMiC is post help requests for items you have, without pictures, just descriptions. That is barely of interest to anyone but yourself - sounds more like you’re looking to sell items and are testing the market.

To be honest, he was a point... I too would take a more active interest in answering questions when the person shows themselves to more active in helping others and bothers to post photos... maybe you should adapt a little to how others participate instead of just posting questions... a photo at very least.

I do not regard personal comments as appropriate , especially when the person making comments has no knowledge of the other person's circumstances.

For information , I do not have the technological devices needed to post photos 

When I pose questions they are to bring out answers which can increase the knowledge of all readers

You are welcome to post, I am simply pointing out you would probably get more answers if you made it more interesting for the people who may spend the time and effort answering, otherwise it is a bit of a one way street.
