Jstrom Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 Hello! Recently got this Frackkette, and I was wondering if you think an ID is possible on this combination of awards. I appreciate any help on it Consists of the following: - Commemorative Medal of the War of Liberation 1918 - Cross of Liberty/Freedom 3rd Class 1918 - Hanseatic Cross of Hamburg - Schaumburg-Lippe Cross for Faithful Service 1914 - Albrechtsorden Ritterkreuz 2. Klasse (repaired at some point?) - Iron cross first or second class
VtwinVince Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 Nice Kette, but I very much doubt an ID is possible.

chuck Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 Gentlemen, Why would the swords be mounted upside down if the chain was put together in a Saxon town? Regards, Chuck

Regards, Chuck I think It's a terrible repair. It has no back part, the back part has been put on the front. Edited August 21, 2022 by Jstrom
Dave Danner Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 (edited) Franz Cohnitz 1883-1960 Kaufmann in Hamburg 19.7.1911 Leutnant d.R. (I Hamburg) des Feldartillerie-Regiments Nr. 3 15.10.1916 Oberleutnant d.R., z.Zt. in der Ersatz-Abteilung des Feldartillerie-Regiments Nr. 39 16.12.1916 Fürstlich Schaumburg-Lippisches Kreuz für Treue Dienste 1914 7.4.1917 Königlich Sächsischer Albrechts-Orden, Ritterkreuz 2. Klasse mit Schwertern xx.5.1918 Finnisches Freiheitskreuz 3. Klasse mit Schwertern All three of these awards were received as an Ordonnanz-Offizier in the staff of the 3. Garde-Kavallerie-Brigade. The later General der Panzertruppe Hans-Karl Freiherr von Esebeck received his Commemorative Medal of the Liberation War on 15.8.1918 as Adjutant of the 3.GKB; Cohnitz likely received his medal around the same time. I can't confirm the Hanseatenkreuz, but it stands to reason given his Hamburg connections. If the repair job was done in Rio de Janeiro, where he lived for many years, that might explain why it was done badly. Edited August 21, 2022 by Dave Danner 3

Seems likely that a better repair in Brazil would not have been possible. Edited August 22, 2022 by Jstrom
