About this blog
One of the true queens of wholesale halloween costumes world fashion has gone on a marathon undercover shopping spree at a Claremont boutique.
Dutch Queen Maxima, a style swimwear manufacturer China icon renowned for her bold fashion choices, spent 90 minutes at Zimmermann at Claremont Quarter on Sunday.
And her husband wholesale swimwear King Willem-Alexander played a key role in choosing which clothes she bought from the comfort of a couch.
The Queen spent about $3500 on five items by the Australian label before a star-struck customer nearly blew her cover.
Zimmermann staff member Romy Paparone, 23, had the honour of serving Their Majesties - though she didn’t know it until they had left.
Ms Paparone said she felt a bit silly after a customer filled her in, but she thought the King and Queen probably enjoyed the anonymity.
The store was quiet when they walked in about 11am.
“There was no one else in the store because I’d just opened,” Ms Paparone said.
“She just started grabbing heaps of things, so I thought, ‘Oh, OK, this is a good start to the morning’.
“She was buying some swimwear because they go to Greece a lot.
“I was telling them about the collection and that it’s an Australian brand. They just seemed like very normal people.”
The Queen bought a printed silk-georgette jumpsuit, an organza silk blouse and three pieces in the same mustard floral print - Italian lycra swimwear, a cotton sarong and a printed silk-georgette resort dress with lace trimming.
The King’s opinion on the clothes seemed to carry a lot of weight - most of the time.
