    The British 40th Infantry Division of 1949.

    Having been raised during WWI & again in Sicily during the autumn of 1943, the 4oth Division was again reformed in Hong Kong in 1949.

    A "Bantam" formation in WWI, its symbol had been originally been a bantam cock, on which was later superimposed a white diamond bearng an acorn, to commemorate the division's role in the capture of Bourlon Wood.

    The formation of 1949 wore a yellow cockerel with red detail borne on a black square as its symbol.

    In 1950, two of its battalions, The 1st Bn Middlesex Regiment & 1st Bn Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, joined the 3rd Australian Infantry Bn to form the 27th Commonwealth Brigade, which took part n operations in Korea during August - October 1950.
