Swords: Gold Saxe Ernestine WW1

Gold swords on this loveley purple and green ribbon are for the Saxe-Ernestine House Order, Knight 1st Class, or Gold Medal. This was a common decoration for Saxe-Altenburg, Saxe-Coburg, and Saxe-Meiningen, the Orders grades all being identical, while each of the three states issued their own verssions of the medals attached to the common Order.

Colors of swords on Imperial awards normally (see comments on Swords: bavarian !!!!) indicate a specific class and not sloppy personal fashion sense. Gold swords were for gold swords on the fiull sized award, and so on.
