Swords could be tall, squared, "flattened" (wider than tall)... any old way the wearer chose (if he cared) or the effects outfitter chose to use custom making ribbon bars.

As the most common award ever made in Germany, the Hindenburg Cross ribbon shows the greatest variation in swords devices. All just personal taste or what was in stock.
