Buttonhole Ribbons 03

Here is a typical 1940 example of buttonhole ribbon wear. The "retread" officer at left is wearing his 1914 EK2 and Hindenburg Cross for Combatants ribbon bar, with a 25mm ribbon holding his 1939 EK 2 Spange from his buttonhole-- perfect regulation wear.

The senior "retread" to the right is also proudly displaying his new 1939 EK2 Spange from his buttonhole (always more popular than wearing it in tiny form on a ribbon bar), with his pinback 1914 EK1 on his left pocket. He is wearing no ribbon bar at all--though from the loops visible for it, he had quite a "rack." This was normal for wear in the filed, where ostentatious display invited the unwelcome attention of enemy marksmen!
