I think its one of the most attractive awards ever, even if all one can ever hope to have is a half decent replica,

Note the method of construction , with the white cover removed, full lining is exposed , with the interior showing a white padding/backing material. It almost looks like Colin's cap has been made by removing the peak from a visor cap.

Now here is the interesting part. A nice Bundesmarine senior officers visor cap.

Again, unlined white top.

Plastic stiffening material inside band, and again a platsic strip between the sweatband and band.

Construction once again similar to wartime.

Volksmarine cap.

Like the wartime copvers, the white one is unlined.

Stiffening material to the band is perforated PVC type plastic. Sweatband has foam "padding" behind it.,

Again, similar construction to wartime.

Similar construction to the wartime ones.

An early postwar Bundesmarine cap. These early blue tops are scarce in their own right, blue tops are no longer worn, the white tops being used all year round instead of just for summer.

Covers for the blue top lined in black and usually have the Bekleidungsamt stamp in white. (Here BAW - Bekleidungsamt Wilhelmshaven). This top, like the band, dated 1941.

Same opaque greyish/blue celluloid interior stiffener.

Makers stamp on inside of sweatband, dated 1941

Same form of construction, same type of sweatband, sewn directly to the cap.

The blue top, made in the same way.

Close up of the distinctive "waffle" pattern weave to the cover.

No lining to the white cover
