    1. So today, pending any further changes, there are 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 8th Armies. MNF-Iraq is also an army-level command, but not designated as a numbered army.

      To all:

End state Army/Corps unit designations may be found on the following link: http://www.army.mil/modularforces/map2.htm

Scroll over each patch for details.

1st Army no longer exists per se although its former patch lives on. 6th Army is resurrected. The Army designation for USARPAC is yet to be determined although 8th Army would be a logical choice.

    2. So what's the deal here... ??? Not one person can step up to the plate and make a definitive statement as to authenticity?

      To all:

Having focused exclusively on Full Cavalier sets going back some 15 years, my judgment remains as expressed in Post 1 above. While some components of this "set" may be original, it does not bear the hallmarks of a genuine group. Several of the reasons for this are discussed in the above posts. Personally, I would advise forum members to steer clear.

Even NavyFCO's/Dave's two consecutively numbered Full Cavalier groups (exhaustively discussed in another forum thread) would be a better expenditure of your money.

    3. To all:

You've seen examples of these these hairy troopers posted elsewhere in the Soviet section of this forum. Let's get these Soviet military beard boys gathered up in one thread and see who has the best beard among them. Shaving profile, what shaving profile? Let the contest begin!

This split-beard Captain 1st Rank is an appropriate chap to kick the competition off.

    4. I know of...one occasion of a posthumous Glory 1st...incidentally, for a posthumous HSU awarding, no awards were given, but the next of kin was given the rights and priveleges of being the family of an HSU recipient - so that one was a pretty "good deal"... even if no physical awards ended up in their possession.

      Dave

      To all:

The number of Full Cavaliers of the Order of Glory whose 1st Class award was made posthumously runs in the double figures. This detail, as well many other unique details connected with Full Cavalier winners, will be furnished in my forthcoming book.

As with posthumous HSUs, the rights and privileges accorded a Full Cavlier were also extended to a posthumous Full Cavalier's NOK. Like the posthumous HSUs, however, the actual Order of Glory 1st Class was not presented to the NOK.

    5. By the way, where did you find that rackbuilder? Most of the ones I've seen don't let you put on devices. Lukasz Gaszewski's does allow for devices, but I don't see how one would be able to save the result as an image.

      Dave,

Thank you for asking. I designed my own program.

    6. The rack you created may correspond to Maj. Bong's awards, but he never wore such a rack. He was killed in a test flight accident on August 6, 1945, before issuance of the Victory Medal. Here is what I believe was Bong's last official portrait:

      Dave,

      Agree.

    7. You scared me for a moment, I thought you had his real one! Impressive even for an ace of his stature.

      Can you find Pappy Boyington's?

      Bob,

Pappy only received two individual decorations for valor - the Medal of Honor and the Navy Cross - in late summer 1945 once repatriated to the states.

    8. I think Kevin's right... Just pulling out my refs (the last one was off the top of my head) it turns out that Darby had 2DSC-DSM-SS-LM-BSM-3PH... However, my 1950 Cullum register got packed so I can't confirm his foreign awards. Looks like Kevin hit it! (Of course, this wasn't exactly "fair"... technically he never wore these awards...) :cheeky:

      Dave

      Kevin and Dave.

BG William O. Darby it is. Of his decorations, only the DSM, one PH and the the Order of Kutusov 3rd Class were posthumous. What's also interesting to note is that he was not authorized the CIB as his basic branch was Field Artillery.
